When you’re booking your photoshoot, you might feel torn between booking an outdoor shoot or in the studio. I believe there are some preconceived notions about studio photography that I would like to explain.
Recently, I had a family reach out to book a photography session and a few points were brought up about if the price was different in studio vs. outdoor, how relaxed the session is in studio, and could I capture the same candid moments in studio. This made me realize many clients have questions and I’d like to help share and debunk these myths I’ve heard.
My studio space in Milton is a brand new renovated space, ideal for families, large groups, with no stress on the weather! Read more here on why I chose Milton for my studio location.
Let’s talk about the myths of studio photography!
Myth 1: Studio poses could be more stiff and posed, not as candid!
Not true!
Through the use of different backdrops and changing posing, we can create a natural, candid look. I guide my clients to look at each-other, have a conversation, be silly, make funny faces.
I like to play your favourite music to help you feel more relaxed and at ease which will show in your photos! Plus who doesn’t love a dance party with your family – the best candid moments captured.
Myth 2: I need the perfect outfit for my studio session!
One benefit of the studio is that you can bring a variety of outfits to change into, creating multiple looks which gives you a great final gallery. You can change multiple times to have a dressy outfit, relaxed look and it doesn’t matter what season it is.
It’s much harder to change outdoors in a park setting and weather dependent as well. You can wear that favourite outfit or fancy shoes you still have in a box that you’ve been meaning to wear – no limits in studio!
“We had an incredible experience with Tegan Monaco Photography! She recently captured beautiful photos of our extended family, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Tegan was so professional, and the photos turned out amazing – she truly has an eye for detail and lighting. What stood out most to us was her kindness and patience, especially with the children. She made sure everyone felt comfortable and engaged throughout the session, which made the entire experience so enjoyable. It’s not easy to capture great photos with kids, but Tegan made it look effortless! We highly recommend Tegan to anyone looking for a photographer who is talented, friendly, and knows how to work with kids. We will cherish these photos for years to come!”

Myth 3: My kids won’t sit still in studio so outdoor is better!
My studio has a large space to play in – it’s a super relaxed calm environment. With 2 kids of my own, I know how to best interact with the little ones.
Just going with the flow and taking the pressure off kids allows them to have fun with their session.
We use bubbles, music and a variety of spaces in the studio to get all the family portraits you’ll need!
Myth 4: Studio sessions are more expensive than outdoor!
Totally not true!
My package pricing is the same whether you book in the studio or outdoor. You get to choose the package that works for you and how many images you want in your gallery.
Another benefit? You can add-on professional printing as well to bring your digital images to life!
Myth 5: You need to have a picture-perfect family!
Truth: Real moments are the most memorable. Your studio session should capture your unique family dynamic—messy, silly, cuddly, and all.
Bring your pets, your kids favourite toys, tell me your favourite song and let me capture the moments for you!
