I know when I was pregnant, I loved capturing these first few newborn details, so many changes month to month. I remember looking for a photographer to capture my maternity photos early as I wanted to be prepared and make sure I captured this special time.
I’d like to share what you can expect with your in-home newborn photography. Everything from the poses to what I bring, and how soon to book in advance.
My favourite poses with Dad’s are to help show how small the newborn is in their hands…best way to compose and you can look back remembering those moments so clearly.
I’m a Mom of two kiddos and know the most important thing is keeping your newborn healthy and free of germs. I am extremely conscientious around your little one.
What are my favourite poses for Mom when capturing their newborn?
It’s the little details…the feet, up close snuggles and smiles while Mom looks at their newborn. When you book your newborn session, we can discuss before what images you are dreaming that we capture! This helps me know what to expect and help achieve your vision.
Sweetness captured in every image. Babies are always so happy with their Mama’s knowing their smells and comfort.
When is the best time to book?
This is entirely up to your preference and how you are feeling.
Many will reach out to inquire on pricing and availability, which will help us get some loose timing in the calendar to plan for. Some parents are ready for photos a few days after they get home from the hospital and others may want to wait a few weeks to get settled into their new routine.
Anytime within those first 3 months is ideal to capture your little one’s details, baby cries and first few yawns. These are the best moments. I let the new Mama’s reach out to me when they are ready to book and make it a first priority in my calendar to make it happen.
Having your newborn photos done in your home is so special & convenient!
You can expect that I’ll take away the stress of coming to you and having everything prepared! The schedule of your photos is flexible and can be completely up to you depending on how your day is going- a few days before our scheduled time, I connect with the Mom and discuss the best time for me to pop over. If anything changes morning of, I can be flexible to adapt to their schedules as well.
Top question I get from a new Mom is “How to prepare for my arrival”?
- Keep it simple – have a shower, eat something and wear something that is most comfortable.
- When I arrive, I will set-up my equipment, and tidy up anything in the background that needs to be moved. I’ll help get everything ready so all you need to do is bring in the baby when I’m ready.
- While I’m photographing your little one, take the extra few minutes for YOU to eat & drink something and take a few moments for you!
The Newborn details are what it’s all about…
- Taking the time early on in my shoot to get in close to the details, hands, feet, face are some of the best images that last a lifetime.
- Depending on babies mode, I will leave them to be in the most comfortable position on their back or side, to take in the full-length shots of how little they truly are.
- Once I’ve captured newborn details, I bring in Mom and Dad to enjoy the moment and get in nice and close together. Seeing how little the baby is in their arms is an important memory to capture.

- Professional lighting & studio backdrops
- Baskets, Extra blankets, Cushions
- Swaddle blankets & knitted hats
- Wooden Name blocks
- Seating for family (wooden boxes for posing)
- Rattles for the siblings to use
How long will your newborn session take?
Newborn photos can take up to 90 minutes. We go with the flow to not rush the process and make sure we get all the important portraits we need!
I will work at your pace! If your baby gets restless or needs a quick feed, take all the time you need. This session is for you and I remember the early days of parenting, and like to adapt to whatever is needed.
If I want to have my newborn session in studio, can I come to your studio?
Absolutely! I can do your newborn photography in the studio! It’s a brand new renovated space perfect for families and great professional backdrops available! I love how comfortable the space is to relax in during your session too, with a nearby kitchen and changeroom for outfit changes. My studio is located in Milton, at Guelph Line & 401.
